When Pære took shape

När Pære tog form

Sometimes ideas start in a very simple way.

The Pære series was actually born when my eldest daughter moved into a new apartment and wanted her own lamp for the living room — something that felt personal, a little different, and suited her style better than what was available in stores.

That marked the beginning of a project where the idea was not just to create a light source, but a detail with its own character.

I started sketching shapes where Scandinavian simplicity met a slightly softer and more organic expression. The goal was for the lamp to feel modern yet warm and alive — something that functions as much as an ambiance creator as it does a design object.

During the process, several shapes, proportions, and materials were tested before the expression started to feel right. This is often how the best ideas emerge — not by rushing a finished product, but by allowing the details to take their time.

Quite early on, the thought that the natural shape of a lamp was precisely the classic light bulb stuck. The name comes from the fact that light bulbs have long had a natural pear shape, and Pære comes from the Danish word for pear, which I think reflects the soft shape that became the series' signature.

What I like most about the lamps today is perhaps that they still carry the origin of why they were created in the first place:
to make something personal for someone you love.

And perhaps that is precisely why they feel so natural in Holtbo — where many products begin with an idea, a feeling, or a story rather than a trend.
